About Therapy

Life is challenging.

We live in a world where all-or-nothing thinking is rampant, perfectionism is celebrated, and identity is oriented around physical beauty.

Social media, job performance, the size of my house, and the type of car I drive are the standards by which the world measures excellence and success.

That’s not to mention my kids who need to be on the honor roll and homecoming king and queen, or I will be notably spoken about as a parent who must not have their family in order.

Sound Familiar?

I must be the perfect Husband, Wife, Partner, Parent, Friend, and Employee, bring in a minimum of six figures, go to Pilates three days a week, do an Iron Man run, complete a marathon at least once a year, go to Burning Man and Coachella, and somehow want to have sex at least four times a week.

I am slightly dramatic here (Who me? Nah), but you get the picture.

Life is exhausting, creating stress, lack of energy, burnout, lack of intimacy, and struggles to maintain a connection with your partner.

Therapy is a place to slow down and exist authentically.

In a world that constantly demands more, settle in and let me hold this space for you.

Clients come into my office with self-imposed expectations and demands that no human could ever meet. If I were to ask you where your insanely high expectation of who you “had” to be came from, you would not be alone if you were to say, “Well, Britni, I don’t know. It’s just always been there.”

Perfectionism has become ingrained in your core, and one millimeter shy of the mark leads to shame and negative beliefs.

As individuals and partners, my clients struggle to allow themselves to be authentically who they are and created to be. Many couples, if not most, do not know who that version of themselves is – that version that has never been permitted to breathe – but we will allow it now.

Be authentic in the space that I offer.

When you come into my space, you are comfortable, wanted, and welcomed – all versions of you. My space is your space. I will help you understand how you have become the person you are today and how to become the person you desire and deserve to be.

I will help you and your partner understand how your respective pasts impact the present. In addition, both of you will learn how to build vulnerability (yes, you create it like a muscle), intimacy, and connection, as well as how to give the gift of empathy for one another as you learn about each other’s wounds.

Clients learn self-insight, self-awareness, and dynamics from their family growing up that aren’t working too well for them anymore. We must be able to name and understand underlying foundational issues before rearranging the architecture. That is precisely what you and I will do together.

We are a team, and I am on this journey with you.

About Britni Karst, MFT

I entered the field of Mental Health because I experienced healing, transformation, and newness from therapy in my twenties. I met with my therapist for over five years as we sifted through my childhood and family dynamics that had led to chronic anxiety and depression, impulsive behaviors, inadequate finances, and poor relationships. How shall I put this? I also was being a little ridiculous (which gave me a leg up in my acting career, but in no other aspects).

I gained my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2015. I have worked with individuals and couples in the private practice setting and have extensive experience working in Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Hospitals.

I have been where you are, so I believe wholeheartedly in the power of my work. I learned that with courage and vulnerability, we can develop self-agency to become whatever we want to be. For me, that used to be an award-winning actress. Now, it is to be the most welcoming, compassionate, hilarious (everyone needs humor), and empowering therapist to my clients.

Not a day goes by when I don’t reflect on what a privilege it is to sit in my seat and bear witness to your healing and transformation, as my therapist once bore witness to mine.

Let’s get started.

All you need to do is make a phone call.
