Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.
– Carl Jung
Psychodynamic Therapy focuses on the unconscious beliefs, stories, and invisible scripts that directly impact our daily relationships.
Let’s get to know Davina*.
Davina struggles to have close relationships and often ends them the moment they get real, right after the honeymoon period dissipates. She recognizes that she fears trust and vulnerability, so she runs the other way when relationships become more profound and emotionally transparent.
Although Davina desires to experience closeness and connection, she has given up on that dream and tells herself, “I guess this is just who I am, so I might as well stop trying.”
Unresolved emotions and past experiences can unconsciously influence our intimate relationships and how we respond to them. People may unconsciously push away closeness or create distance in relationships, even when they desire intimacy.
In Davina’s case, she was experiencing a mix of fear of intimacy and rejection, yet at the same time desired connection. Her ingrained and deep-rooted unconscious patterns often result in self-sabotaging behaviors, keeping her from what she desires.
Psychodynamic therapy helped Davina.
Psychodynamic therapy aims to explore and address when and where these internalized narratives were planted that lead to the growth of these destructive patterns. When working with clients, I help them recognize the influence of the unconscious and the negative impact it has created in their relationships with themselves and others.
Bringing awareness is the first step toward understanding and potentially changing these destructive behaviors and beliefs.
Through our work together, Davina learned to recognize and identify how her unconscious was invisibly directing her life and impacting her behaviors and beliefs about relationships.
Through self-insight and self-awareness of the subterranean construction of her mind, Davina could change and create new patterns and was empowered to create a new future for herself that led to freedom from the past, fulfillment and self-love.
Like Davina, Psychodynamic Therapy can help you, too.
Psychodynamic Therapy changed Davina’s life and can also change yours.
